§Careers

Build the operator.

We are a small team in San Francisco building software that books and runs freight. Five roles are open across engineering, sales, and operations.

IHow we work

Five things we actually do.

Ship every day.

Code goes out daily. We would rather fix a real problem tomorrow than plan around a guess for a month.

Learn the desk.

We sit with dispatchers and brokers to understand the job in detail before we build for it.

Own the load.

Whoever picks something up carries it to delivered. No handoffs, no waiting to be unblocked.

In the room.

San Francisco, five days a week. The work moves faster when the whole team can hear each other.

Small on purpose.

We hire slowly and hand people more than they expect. Everyone here does work that would take a team elsewhere.

IIOpen roles

Five roles. All in San Francisco.

Founding EngineerEngineering · San Francisco · In person

You will build the operator itself. The pricing on a lane, the systems that reach carriers, and the software our own team uses to run loads. Expect to own a surface end to end, from the database to what the customer sees.

Who fits. You have shipped production software at a small company and move easily between backend, frontend, and whatever the week demands. You do not need freight experience. You do need to want to learn it, which means time on the phone with dispatchers.

To apply. Send us something you built. Code, a project, anything real. Email us with the subject Founding Engineer.

Forward Deployed EngineerEngineering · San Francisco · In person

You will live inside our first customers. Wire Rome into their systems, learn how their desk actually runs, and turn what you find into product. Half the week is engineering, half is sitting with the people using it.

Who fits. You have built integrations and can debug someone else's system over a screen share without losing patience. You would rather be on site than in a planning meeting. Comfort with ambiguity matters more than depth in any one stack.

To apply. Tell us about a time you fixed something by watching someone work. Email us with the subject Forward Deployed Engineer.

Founding Account ExecutiveSales · San Francisco · In person

You will bring on the first shippers. Find them, run the call, and stay on the account after it signs. You will also decide what our sales motion looks like, because right now there is not one.

Who fits. You have sold to operators, ideally in logistics, manufacturing, or distribution. You are comfortable being early, with no case studies and no brand behind you. You like being the person who figures out the pitch.

To apply. Tell us about a deal you closed that should not have closed. Email us with the subject Founding Account Executive.

Business Development RepresentativeSales · San Francisco · In person

You will find the shippers worth talking to and get them on the calendar. Calls, email, industry events, whatever works. You will be the first voice most of this market hears from Rome.

Who fits. You are early in your career, hard to discourage, and genuinely curious about how freight works. You have done outbound before, or you can show us you will be good at it. This role leads to closing.

To apply. Send us a cold email that would get you a meeting. Email us with the subject Business Development Representative.

Freight Operations LeadOperations · San Francisco · In person

You will run loads on Rome and make the product better by using it. When something breaks you fix it with a phone call, then you tell engineering what to build so it does not break again.

Who fits. You have brokered or dispatched freight and can spot a bad carrier before the truck is late. You are opinionated about how this job should work and tired of doing it across twelve browser tabs.

To apply. Tell us the worst load you ever saved. Email us with the subject Freight Operations Lead.

Open applicationAny team · San Francisco · In person

We hire ahead of the roles we post. If you are excellent and this is the problem you want to work on, write to us anyway. Some of the best people we talk to do not match anything on this page.

Who fits. You can point to something you built, sold, or ran that would not have happened without you.

To apply. Tell us what you would do here in your first 90 days. Email us with the subject Open application.

IIIHow we hire

Four steps.

01

Intro call

30 minutes

Who you are, what we are building, and whether there is a fit worth pursuing.

02

Deep dive

60 minutes

With the person you would work beside. Real problems from our actual week, not puzzles.

03

Work trial

One week, paid

You work on something real with us. It is the only way either side finds out for sure.

04

Team and offer

In person

Meet everyone, ask us anything, and get a decision.

IVThe offer

What you get.

Equity above market.

We would rather own less of a company that works. Everyone here has meaningful ownership.

Health, dental, and vision.

Covered for you and your dependents.

The office.

San Francisco, five days a week. Lunch and dinner when you are in.

Whatever you need to work.

Machine, monitors, desk setup. Ask and it shows up.

Write to us.

Put the role in the subject line.
